Koon Constructions Pty Ltd is seeking a to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for accurately estimating construction projects, analyzing costs, and ensuring projects are completed within budget.

Task & responsibilities

• Read and interpret architectural drawings, engineering plans, and specifications
• Prepare detailed cost estimates for construction projects, including labour, materials, equipment, and subcontractor costs
• Liaise with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain quotes and pricing
• Use estimating software (especially MS- Excel) to calculate project costs
• Prepare Bill of Quantities (BOQs) and tender documentation
• Evaluate and assess project risks and provide cost-effective solutions
• Collaborate with project managers and design teams to ensure cost control throughout the construction process
• Participate in project reviews, scope of work meetings, and post-tender negotiations
• Ensure compliance with relevant safety standards and legal requirements
• Assist in contract administration and budget forecasting
• Maintain a cost database and historical records for future reference

Qualification & experience

• A Diploma or higher qualification in Building and Construction, Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline. If the applicant’s qualification includes Management Studies (e.g., commercial Management, Project Management, or Business Management), it may be assessed as an additional strength.
• At least 3 years’ post-qualification experience in construction estimating or quantity surveying
• Proven experience interpreting construction plans, architectural drawings, and specifications
• High level of numeracy and cost analysis skills
• Proven ability to collaborate in multicultural teams, including with Australian supervisors, site managers, clients, and subcontractors

Desirable:

• Fluency in Sinhala is an added advantage, with the ability to interpret and bridge communication where Sinhala-speaking clients, subcontractors, or team members are involved
• Prior experience working on construction projects in Australia or in accordance with Australian standards
• Familiarity with Australian Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) requirements
• Ability to adapt to Australian workplace culture, including communication norms, decision-making protocols, and safety procedures
