About the role

Empowering Connection Group is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Disability Support Worker (HIDPA) to join our team in Victor Harbor, SA. This is a casual position that offers flexibility whilst making a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals with disabilities. As a Disability Support Worker, you will provide essential support to help people with disabilities achieve their goals, maintain independence and participate fully in community life. This role is fundamental to our mission of empowering individuals and fostering genuine connections within our community.

Key responsibilities

  1. Providing direct personal care and support to individuals with disabilities, including assistance with daily living activities such as personal hygiene, grooming and dressing

  2. Supporting clients with mobility and safe movement, including the use of mobility aids where necessary

  3. Assisting clients with domestic tasks such as meal preparation, shopping and household management

  4. Facilitating community participation by supporting clients to engage in social activities, recreational pursuits and community outings

  5. Building positive relationships with clients based on trust, respect and understanding of individual needs

  6. Supporting clients' independence and decision-making whilst providing guidance and encouragement

  7. Maintaining detailed and accurate records of support provided and client progress

  8. Communicating effectively with clients, their families, carers and other members of the support team

  9. Adhering to all health and safety protocols, duty of care obligations and safeguarding procedures

  10. Respecting client confidentiality and promoting dignity in all interactions

What we're looking for

  1. A genuine passion for supporting people with disabilities and promoting their independence and wellbeing

  2. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build trusting relationships

  3. Patience, empathy and a non-judgmental approach to supporting diverse individuals

  4. Physical capability to provide hands-on support, including assistance with mobility and personal care tasks

  5. Reliability and flexibility to work casual shifts as required

  6. A commitment to maintaining confidentiality and upholding professional boundaries

  7. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a support team

  8. Current Working With Children Check and Police Clearance or willingness to obtain these

  9. First Aid certification (preferred but not essential, as training can be provided)

  10. Experience in aged care, disability support or community services (desirable)
