The Aged or Disabled Carer is responsible for providing personal care, emotional support, and daily living assistance to elderly persons and individuals living with disabilities. The role involves supporting clients in maintaining their independence, personal wellbeing, and participation in community activities while ensuring care is delivered in a safe and respectful manner.

Task & responsibilities

Duties & Responsibilities 

1.Personalized Care and Support:

• Understanding Individual Needs: This involves getting to know each person's unique needs, preferences, and goals. This might include physical, emotional, social, and developmental needs.  
• Assisting with Daily Living: This can range from help with personal care (bathing, dressing, grooming) to meal preparation, household chores, and medication reminders.   
• Promoting Independence: Encouraging residents to develop skills and make choices that increase their autonomy and self-reliance.   
• Implementing Care Plans: Following individualized plans designed to address specific needs and goals, ensuring consistency and effectiveness in support.   

2. Fostering Well-being and Inclusion:

• Creating a Supportive Environment: Building a safe, welcoming, and inclusive home where residents feel respected and valued.
• Emotional Support: Providing companionship, empathy, and understanding, and helping residents manage emotions and challenges.
• Social Engagement: Facilitating social interactions, community outings, and participation in activities that align with residents' interests.   
• Advocacy: Speaking up for residents' rights and needs, ensuring their voices are heard and their choices are respected.

3.Collaboration and Communication:

• Teamwork: Working closely with other support staff, healthcare professionals, families, and community resources to provide holistic care.   
• Communication: Maintaining clear and open communication with residents, their families, and the support team.   
• Record Keeping: Documenting observations, progress, and any incidents to ensure continuity of care and inform decision-making.   

4. Promoting Growth and Development:

• Skill Development: Supporting residents in learning new skills, whether it's cooking, budgeting, or using technology.   
• Goal Setting: Helping residents identify and work towards personal goals, celebrating their achievements and progress.
• Community Integration: Assisting residents in accessing community resources, participating in social events, and building relationships.

Qualification & experience

What we require

• Relevant Qualification and/or 1 years plus full time experience or 2 year part time equivalent 
• Wide range of availability to work essential, including nights and weekends 
• Experience in Personal Care and Manual Handling 
• Experience managing complex behaviours in community & Residential Settings
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• MAYBO training or willingness to obtain
• A current NDIS Worker Screening Check or willingness to obtain.
• Working with Children Check, or willingness to obtain.
• Current First Aid and CPR training, or willingness to obtain.
• Reliable vehicle and a drivers licence
• A positive, reliable, empathetic and proactive approach to supporting people of all ages and backgrounds living with a disability
• Competent English Skills
