About the role

This role leads the development of a library collection that meets the needs of our community.  You will lead a team who select, process, promote and manage physical and digital collections. This role has responsibility for establishing metadata standards and undertaking original description of collections as required.

Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Lead the strategic planning, development and maintenance of balanced, current and inclusive library collectionsacross physical and digital formats.
  • Provide strong leadership to the collections team, setting clear expectations, guiding daily operations and fostering a collaborative, accountable culture.
  • Oversee collection budgetsand vendor relationships to ensure sustainable, compliant and value-for-money procurement.
  • Drive continuous improvement by reviewing processes, analysing data and supporting innovation in collection development and service delivery. 
  • Strengthen internal and external partnerships to ensure collections remain relevant and responsive to community needs.
  • Champion high standards of service, compliance and operational excellence across all collection activities.

About youYou will bring strong critical thinking and analytical capability, enabling you to balance popularity, currency, diversity and community needs in collection management whil interpreting data and reporting on outcomes with confidence. Your collaborative approach will support the seamless integration of collections into service delivery, complemented by well developed merchandising and display skills that enhance user engagement. You will be highly proficient in the use of Library Management Systems and office software.  You are able to work autonomously to plan, prioritise and deliver work for both you and your team. With strong interpersonal skills, you will build effective relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders and proactively resolve issues as they arise, contributing to a positive, solutions focused work environment

Essential Selection Criteria

  • Ability to develop and manage library collections that balance popularity, currency, diversity and community needs, supported by strong knowledge of collection development principles, inclusive practices and catalogue discoverability.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to interpret data, evaluate outcomes and inform evidence based collection decisions.
  • Proficiency in Library Management Systems and office software, including Microsoft Office, records management and finance tools.
  • Skilled in merchandising, display techniques and curated stock placement to enhance discoverability, engagement and circulation.
  • Strong collaboration, interpersonal and influencing skills, with the ability to build productive relationships across diverse stakeholders and resolve issues proactively.
  • Experience managing procurement processes, liaising with vendors, monitoring budgets and maintaining accurate collection records, including stocktakes and data integrity.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading and managing a team.

Qualifications

  • Graduate Diploma in Library and Information Studies or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Possession of, or the ability to acquire, a satisfactory National Police Clearance Certificate (dated within the last 12 months).
