An essential finance leadership role within Australia’s largest independent pet retailer.

Are you ready to take the lead in shaping the financial future of Australia’s largest independent pet retailer?

PetO, an established family business amid a fast-paced expansion, is on the lookout for a proactive Management Accountant to join our pack. As we continue to grow with nearly 60 stores and 22 co-located veterinary clinics, we need a sharp commercial and financial mind to help drive informed decisions, improve processes, and support our thriving business.

We have loved being in the pet industry these last 17 years and know the value of passionate people, so can’t wait to get started in growing this business together.

Key Responsibilities

  • Partner with the CEO and Executive Team to drive performance, enable strategic decision making, and support the implementation of robust processes and practices

  • Manage budgeting and reforecasting cycles, consolidating inputs from entities and business units

  • Develop accurate data reporting and dashboards to monitor and manage KPIs (both financial and non-financial)

  • Perform variance analysis against budget/forecast at entity and group level

  • Preparation of consolidated monthly financial and management reports

  • Conduct margin analysis, cost reviews, and profitability reporting by store, clinic, and category

  • Manage inventory accounting and reporting — stock valuations, shrinkage, write-offs, and provision reviews

  • Reconcile sales and inventory data between POS/operational systems and financial records to ensure gross margin accuracy

Qualifications and Experience

  • CA/CPA certified (or equivalent)

  • 5+ years of experience in accounting and 2+ years in management accounting, ideally from a fast-moving Retail or FMCG background.

  • Excellent knowledge of Pronto ERP and Cognos with ability to refine processes and improve functionality

  •  A proven ability to combine business insight with a hands-on approach, always eager to get involved and solve problems.

  • A sharp eye for data analysis with experience working with large datasets to uncover actionable insights.

  • Advanced skills in Excel as well as with tools like Power BI and SQL
