Reporting to the Managing Director, the Accountant (General) will play a central role in maintaining better financial health based on sound accounting systems and practices to support our manufacturing and supply operations. This is a full-time, permanent position that requires a hands-on accounting professional who thrives in a fast-paced production environment and can manage end-to-end financial reporting, internal controls and setup and implement both paper based and  computer based accounting systems.

Task & responsibilities

  • Prepare periodic financial statements, management reports, and performance summaries for presentation to directors, senior management, and relevant stakeholders in accordance with accounting standards.
  • Review financial reports to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with applicable accounting principles, standards, and statutory reporting requirements.
  • Oversee the setup, maintenance, and accuracy of financial statements generated through the company’s accounting system, ensuring alignment with underlying ledger balances and financial records.
  • Maintain and strengthen internal control systems and accounting procedures to ensure accuracy of financial data, prevention of revenue leakage, and effective cost control.
  • Introduce, implement, and maintain accounting software systems and accounting policies in line with business requirements, regulatory changes, and evolving accounting standards.
  • Liaise with banks, financial institutions, and brokers to manage credit facilities, banking arrangements, and funds management requirements of the organisation.
  • Assist in the formulation of annual budgets, budget frameworks, and accounting policies, and conduct periodic variance analysis comparing actual performance against budgets, identifying key financial drivers.
  • Examine and analyse production costs, operational expenditure, and revenue across manufacturing and installation activities to identify variances and support efficient financial management.
  • Prepare cash flow forecasts and monitor cash flow positions to ensure effective working capital management and timely settlement of obligations to vendors, employees, and creditors.
  • Evaluate financial risks associated with capital investment proposals, including equipment purchases and fixed asset acquisitions, to support informed financial decision-making.
  • Ensure financial records and reporting processes support compliance requirements and facilitate audit readiness and external financial review processes where applicable.

Qualification & experience

Qualifications 

Bachelor’s degree or higher in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline - Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) Level 7. 

 

Experience 

Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in a general accounting or financial reporting role, preferably within a manufacturing, construction, or trade services environment. Preference will be given to candidates who have successfully implemented or assisted in the migration from manual accounting systems to computerized accounting platforms. 

Skills 

  • Proficiency in accounting software such as MYOB, Xero, or similar platforms, with confidence in adapting to new systems. 
  • Intermediate skills in Excel with knowledge of functions such as Pivot Tables, XLookup, Index and Match.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail. 
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present financial information to stakeholders with non-accounting background.
