Accountant

This is an accounting role within IJ Build Group, supporting the financial management of construction projects, project costing, statutory compliance, budgeting, cash flow management, and internal reporting. The successful candidate will work closely with directors, project managers, subcontractors, suppliers, external accountants, and financial institutions to ensure accurate financial control across the business.

Task & responsibilities

• You will be responsible for performing and overseeing a range of accounting duties tailored to the operational needs of a construction business, including:
• Assisting management in formulating and implementing budgetary controls and accounting policies tailored to project-based financial planning in the construction sector.
• Preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, job cost reports, and cash flow forecasts for review by directors, project managers, and statutory bodies.
• Monitoring and analysing financial performance across multiple construction projects, tracking expenditure against budgets, and identifying variances to assist with cost control and forecasting.
• Reviewing operating costs, subcontractor expenses, and procurement spending to ensure financial efficiency and accurate margin tracking across projects.
• Ensuring compliance with all statutory obligations, including BAS, GST, PAYG, Superannuation, and other relevant reporting requirements, while maintaining accurate and audit-ready records.
• Engaging with financial institutions, external accountants, and insurance providers to support funding, financing, and risk management needs of the business.

Qualification & experience

• A bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field.
• Minimum one year of post-qualification experience in accounting, preferably in the construction or project-based industry.
• Proficient in accounting software such as Xero and QuickBooks, with a strong understanding of job costing and project accounting principles.
• Solid understanding of Australian accounting standards and taxation laws.
• Strong attention to detail, organisational skills, and the ability to manage competing priorities.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
