Task & Key Responsibilities:
• Supporting the development and application of financial management procedures, budgeting practices, and accounting policies for business and SMSF clients in accordance with Australian accounting and regulatory standards.
• Preparing detailed financial reports, including profit and loss statements, balance sheets, cash flow summaries, and year-end accounts for review by clients, directors, management, and relevant statutory authorities.
• Reviewing client accounting records, undertaking audit support activities, preparing financial summaries and statutory reports, and providing factual information in relation to taxation obligations, entity structures, and business performance based on historical financial data.
• Analysing client income, expenses, operating costs, and financial transactions to identify cost patterns, performance issues, and opportunities to improve profitability, efficiency, and compliance.
• Checking the accuracy, completeness, and reliability of financial information and ensuring financial reports comply with relevant taxation, corporate, accounting, superannuation, and statutory obligations.
• Providing practical tax-related guidance to individuals and businesses regarding business structures, operational planning, tax obligations, cash flow management, and long-term financial management.
• Preparing income tax returns, Business Activity Statements, and related taxation documents for individuals, partnerships, companies, trusts, and other client entities, with final review and lodgement completed under the supervision of a registered Tax Agent.
• Communicating with banks, lenders, finance providers, brokers, and external advisers to provide accounting information, liaise on client documentation requirements, and support compliance and reporting aspects of lending and funding arrangements.
• Setting up, reviewing, improving, and maintaining accounting software and digital bookkeeping systems, including Xero and QuickBooks, while advising clients on effective record-keeping and system use.
• Designing, implementing, and monitoring financial procedures, reconciliation processes, approval systems, and internal controls to support accuracy, accountability, and compliance across client operations.
• Preparing cash flow projections and budgets for accounting and compliance purposes, and compiling financial information to support client reporting requirements in relation to business operations and SMSF compliance.
• Assisting with SMSF accounting processes, including transaction reconciliations, preparation of financial records, compilation of investment income data, member balance reporting, pension payment records, and compliance documentation for audit and taxation purposes.
• Supporting the preparation of reports and working papers required for SMSF compliance, annual financial reporting, and audit review processes.
• Maintaining accurate client records, workpapers, schedules, and supporting documentation in accordance with firm procedures, professional standards, and confidentiality requirements.
• Liaising with clients to obtain financial information, clarify accounting records, resolve reporting issues, and provide timely updates regarding the progress of accounting and taxation work.
Qualifications and Skills
• A bachelor’s degree or higher qualification in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field (or equivalent overseas qualification)

• At least 1–3 years of relevant professional experience in accounting, taxation, and financial reporting
