How Can I Help?
In this role, you will support the delivery of high‑quality statutory financial reporting for Westpac Institutional Bank. You will prepare and review statutory financial statements and disclosure notes, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with accounting standards, regulatory requirements, and Group policies.
You will act as a trusted accounting adviser to the business, providing clear and pragmatic guidance on the application of accounting policy across institutional products. This includes supporting new product initiatives, assessing appropriate accounting treatment, understanding disclosure implications, and ensuring consistent policy application in practice. Working closely with WIB Finance, Group Finance, and offshore teams, you will help resolve complex accounting matters, strengthen financial control, and drive continuous improvement.
Beyond statutory reporting, you will oversee month‑end reporting activities, including balance sheet reviews, reconciliations, journal preparation, and hedge accounting processes. You will partner closely with outsourced service providers to ensure accurate and timely delivery, while also coordinating intercompany processes and providing subject‑matter expertise on Multiple Reporting Currency (MRC) ledgers and their impact on Group AUD reporting.
With a strong focus on risk management and control, you will identify control gaps, support Finance Assurance sign‑offs, and lead initiatives that simplify processes, enhance governance, and continuously improve reporting quality.
What Do I Need?
You are a CA/CPA‑qualified accountant with proven experience in statutory reporting within a banking or regulated financial services environment. You bring a strong technical accounting background, with hands‑on experience preparing or reviewing financial statements and disclosures, and a solid understanding of accounting standards.
Critically, you have experience applying accounting policy in practice and advising stakeholders on complex accounting matters. You are comfortable managing competing deadlines, engaging with a range of finance and business partners, and working with large data sets and financial systems. Experience with Oracle and strong Excel capability are highly regarded, along with a data‑driven mindset and a willingness to challenge existing ways of working.
