As Financial Manager you will be responsible for the strategic and operational financial management of Rumdel Construction Pty Ltd, supporting the company’s growth in the Australian civil construction market. The role ensures strong financial governance, accurate reporting, cashflow management, compliance with Australian statutory and taxation requirements, and financial oversight across complex civil, road rehabilitation, and infrastructure projects.

Task & responsibilities

  • Develop and implement financial strategies aligned with Rumdel’s Australian business objectives and expansion plans.
  • Provide high-level financial advice to Directors on business performance, risk management, and investment decisions.
  • Establish and maintain robust financial systems, policies, and internal controls.
  • Prepare annual budgets, rolling forecasts, and long-term financial models.
  • Manage project-based cashflow forecasting, cost-to-complete analysis, and working capital requirements.
  • Monitor financial performance against budgets and report variances with corrective actions.
  • Prepare and review monthly management accounts, financial statements, and board reports.
  • Ensure compliance with Australian Accounting Standards, Corporations Act, and statutory reporting obligations.
  • Liaise with external auditors, accountants, and advisors.
  • Oversee GST, BAS, PAYG, payroll tax, FBT, and company tax obligations.
  • Ensure compliance with ATO requirements and Australian financial regulations.
  • Support statutory audits and government reporting where required.
  • Provide financial oversight on civil construction contracts including:
    • Cost tracking and margin analysis
    • Progress claims and revenue recognition
    • Variation assessments and commercial reporting
  • Work closely with project managers to improve financial outcomes and cost control.
  • Identify financial and commercial risks and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Maintain strong corporate governance frameworks and financial delegations.
  • Support ISO-aligned financial and business management systems where applicable.
  • Lead and mentor finance and administration staff.
  • Coordinate with banks, insurers, financiers, and government agencies.
  • Support funding applications, guarantees, and financial capability submissions for prequalification.

Qualification & experience

  • Bachelor’s degree/Diploma in Accounting, Finance, Commerce (mandatory).
  • Professional qualification such as CA, CPA, or equivalent (highly desirable).
  • Minimum 2 years’ relevant post-qualification experience as a Financial Manager or Senior Finance role, or as an Auditor.
  • Advanced financial management and commercial acumen.
  • Strong understanding of Australian tax, payroll, and statutory compliance.
  • High-level financial modelling, forecasting, and reporting capability.
  • Ability to work closely with executive management and operational teams.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
